Why I started Treehouse Candle Co. | creative rut

When I first started Treehouse Candle Co., I was in a sort of strange place in my life. I had been working as a personal trainer for almost nine years and had made that my whole personality for most of that time. My daughter had also just turned 3, so I had been "balancing" working mom / work at home mom / take your kid to work mom life for a while.

In my past life - before becoming a personal trainer - I had studied music my whole life. I taught private lessons for many years and performed in various groups. I loved the creative aspect of it that I usually kept to myself. I did not love performing, unless it was in an orchestral setting and no one could really single me out, ha.

Back to July 2022. At this point and since becoming a Mom, I had experienced more than a few identity - I don't want to say crisis. - shifts. The gym was not my whole personality. I tried to make it fit in the same way it always had, but there was soooo much resistance energetically. (Please feel free to reply to this email and tell me if you've experienced something similar!).

I was missing something, for sure.

I thought about the things that brought me peace - nature, music, the family I'd built, and yes sometimes training. I needed, without a doubt, a way to bring more creativity and more joy into my life.

As you may know, I saw a YouTube video of a woman who had built a candle business, and something inside me instantly clicked.

Let's skip ahead to what inspires this little candle company, and me. I fully understand and believe in the power of scent. We know that scent can trigger memories and take us back in time to events or places or people. I also know that scent can take us from one mood to another. It can shift an entire experience. I often talk about the fragrances I create in comparison to a great film score (because in my head I am Hans Zimmer🤣 a girl can dream).

The scent should elevate the experience you are already having. It should add something that was not there before, but that makes you see/feel/smell the experience or the space in a whole new, better way. It delivers the perfect vibe or mood.

Think about it - if you are cozy under a warm blanket during a blizzard with a hot chocolate and your favorite holiday movie on, would you prefer to smell a candle resembling a tropical island beverage? To each their own, but likely not. It doesn't fit.

Check out he signature scents I've designed for Treehouse.

The Backwoods Collection contains elements of the outdoors, adventure, nature, a wandering spirit. I love burning these when I am working or brainstorming or wanted to feel really inspired.

The Sanctuary Collection also has elements of nature and the outdoors, but more fruit and flowers, ya know? I love this collection for a sweet date night at home, a relaxing evening doing my skincare, or a movie night with friends.

The Fall Collection contains fragrances I would - and will - burn all year round. For me, I don't want to smell pumpkin pie while I am watching Hocus Pocus. I want to smell lavender, sage, burning embers, and really feel the full experience. I want to burn Shadow while I am journaling and planning for the new year with a renewed energy.

You see what I mean with the film score comparison? I know, I am clinging to the Hans Zimmer thing but I'm just a huge fan, ok?😆
